We need more info!

Which MPS 3 do you have? How old? How many miles? What was the last service and when? Have you had any other problems before? Do you have any mods? Does this happen at any particular speed / load / time of day or is it totally random? When you say turbo there then no there, can you still hear the turbo whining as it spools up? Do you need to change oil or water regularly? Do you get any warning lights? Mazda will have written fault codes on the job sheet (which you should have a copy of) what were these?

Lets start there!

No idea here...I'm sure some guys will be along soon with ideas, but have you thought about getting your car on a rolling road to see how much power it has...will be good for some proof to Mazda, also the RR company might be able to identify the problem?

What car do you have? mk1 3? mk2 3? 6?
How old is your car? What mileage does it have? service kept upto date? Still within warranty period?

There is only one hose going to the turbo. Syptoms cracked or broken in some way physically, or a vacuum hose connecting to it split, re-cric pipe loose.

But, could be any number of things.

57 plate 23000 miles serviced about 5000 miles ago can still hear turbo just lacking power only had car 2 months brought car from hyundai dealership. no warning lights come on have not got fault code sheet looked at by local mazda dealer not mps specialist dealership. Would it be best to take to specialised mazda dealership what can they do different to normal dealership. The exaust is also very coked up.

Your car most likely has a boost leak, check all the clamps on pipework are tight, if the exhasut is very coked up then it would suggest massive over fueling, caused by the air leak in the intake system.

How do you mean by coked up?? Mine does get the black soot on the exhaust but its has been like that since I bought it and only mod I have is CS instake and TIP and Forge BPV. Since I had a problem with boost last week which I think I have fixed but rechecking all the fitting I am conscious that it could happen again

I wouldn't put it on a dyno just yet, you don't want to stress the fault furher. Is there a lumpyness to the power delivery when it's happening?

took it to the mazda dealer in colchester and they said it feels like its there sometimes and other times you put your foot down and it feels like the turbo has been taken out. They replaced the pipe that leads to the turbo as it had a split in it felt a little better but still not great, they said they plugged it in and all looked ok.

O.k, well it's needs to be datalogged to locate the problem. Where abouts are you located?

Could be a whole host of things, could be pulling timing due to an issue elsewhere, wastegate could be sticking open (either an actuator fault or a vacuum issue), a boost leak of some sort, etc. It does seem like a physical fault rather than an electrical fault, electrical faults tends to be consistent.

But as I say, if I was diagnosing it I would get out on the road with the laptop and analyse PIDs.
